Our last day of the tour! I can't believe how much we've seen!
We left the castle this morning and headed out on the looooong drive back to Edinburgh. Since it was such a big distance, we didn't have many stops today. However, we did start the day off right with a visit to a nearby whiskey distillery, Glenmorangie. Since I have yet to try whiskey, I decided 10am was probably not the best time for my first whiskey experience, so I just enjoyed the aromas. Birthe (our favorite German girl) sampled one and looked very high class while doing it.
Later on, we made a stop at the Culloden battlefield, which was really just a field, but the story of the battle between the Jacobites and the British government was interesting. In Inverness, we dropped off Claire and Rowan so they could make their way back to their island home. The rest of us picked up lunch at the supermarket, which we ate later on at the Clava Cairns, the site of several burial tombs and standing stones. We didn't actually explore the site, but it was a magical place to be eating lunch. Like I said, you can find so many places like this around Scotland. It's unbelievable! There were only a few brief toilet/photo stops on the remainder of the trip back to Edinburgh. We arrived around 6pm and Bruce was unable to drop us off directly at the office because Festival had the street closed off. After saying our goodbyes, Beth and I had to make our way to the office on our own to collect our other suitcases. Then we had to haul those back to Budget Backpackers. The good news is that Birthe was sharing a room with us again (I forgot to mention she was in our room the night before the tour as well). That night, a bunch of us from the tour met up at the pub for dinner and drinks. Lisa met up with us too and it was great to see her one more time!
